Auf Wiedersehen, Po(l)pette

Macello di Qualita

Enough of that big Bunny! Welcome back to reality, oops there goes gravity, the big bank holiday is over, a soft landing, an Italian Chop, a pint of wine, a gilda, a cuddle. Welcome to Quality Wines, welcome to the newsletter, .

Over the last couple of weeks down at Macello di Qualita we’ve been Tuscan trimming, egging, pannéing, repeating, pan frying, warming & serving cotoletta all Milanese. Or, Veal chop accompanied by spuds (patetes) and salad (insalata). On until the end of the week, or sold out. Quality, Meat Chop.

From next Tuesday our set lunch includes: starters of chicken & Serrano ham terrine, a sumac sozzled salad of chickpea & parsley and, British green asparagus served with that bouchon staple of cervelle de canut. To follow: a hefty wedge of weightily wafting onion & Manchego tart is accompanied by watercress salad, Toulousian snags get puy lentils & a dollop of Dijon and, a Portuguese clam rice comes terracotta and all. A toe dipped into course 3 offers cheeses, cannoli & sorbet and, galaktoboureko. A baklava adjacent set custard in filo pastry and a deep dive into a childhood spent on the Greek islands. Think sun tans, sandy feet and a snaffled ouzaki.

2 courses for £29 or 3 courses for £35. Tuesday to Saturday.

After 5pm on the a la carte a steamed & serene fillet of hake comes alongside clams & chorizo with an olive oil mash. Lamb shoulders for two are available, adorned with merguez atop those waxy lamb fa(e)tted potatoes. Keith or Rick, no it’s Nick on Spain. A hand rolled tagliatelle with polpette & red sauce and that's us living alright.

Hope to see you all soon.

Marcos, Nick & the Team.
