Difficult, Difficult, Anthotyro Difficult

Good afternoon, welcome to the weekend & the Quality Wines newsletter. A time for change, for excitement, for Champagne. There’s a new government too...

A menu promise of caponata for next week. Melanzana, zucchini, basil, golden raisins, onions, more. It’s ‘Agro-Dolce’, ‘Ying & Yang’, balance.

Palourde clams come in a broth of Abruzzese Trebbiano, Emiliana Culatello, parsley & butter. Get a spoon & some bread for the mopping.

Zucchini, zucchini flowers & dill come with Anthotyro, a semi soft Hellenic sheeps’ milk cheese. Remember. Its the Zucchini, stupid.

Roasted steaks of turbot are served with braised green beans (Fasolakia) & yoghurt spiked with garlic & cucumber (Tzatziki). Its all Greek to me!

A quick bop across the med for a ½ poussin braised in Pastis along with fudgy potatoes, saffron & an aioli ensconced toast. Your hipster weekend away in Marseilles on a plate.

1 more week for our ‘Express Lunch’ of spaghetti & pesto with potatoes & French beans. A cult classic and an ode to the late great Marcella Hazan. £15 with a glass, beer or soft, at lunch. As ever.

A classic selection of cannoli, ‘manga’ strawberry Sundae & a bitter chocolate sorbet so rich we can’t believe it’s not butter, round out the offering.

Whether it’s celebration, consolation or just conversation we have the wines and times for you. Hoping to see you all over the coming days.

Liberté, égalité, Aligoté!
