Ischian Karma!

Good afternoon Qualitistas! Welcome to the weekend & welcome to the Quality Wines newsletter. It is hot, no doubt. There is fire, there is fear. Arrest those notions. Come tickle those thought trotters in the cooling pool of our biweekly babblings. Old world state of mind, jumpers for goalposts, the red eye to Athens, henna tattoos, clove cigarettes & a Calippo

Food, drink, family, friends.

The volcanic island of Ischia, at the tip of the bay of Naples, is home to Greek myth & legend, pine trees, shrubbery and a cascading population of wild rabbits. The local dish ‘coniglio all'ischitana’ comes to your local trattoria this week. At lunch, the legs which have been braised with glorious tomatoes, hard herbs and black olives are served a piece. At dinner, the meat broken down and mingled through the sugo with egg yolk tagliatelle and plenty of Parmigiano. Bonus points if you come for both. Watership down and out in Farringdon, lapin it up!

Ox heart tomatoes and pink, popped & slowly brothed borlotti beans are enlightened with salmoriglio, a dressing of oregano, olive oil, garlic & lemon. Salted hake is whipped with olive oil in the Venetian tradition and comes adorned with frigitelli peppers & vinegar.

At dinner, lamb shoulders & trombetta zucchini are cooked low and slow until both beast & berry are yielding & flavourful. Sitting on creamy, absorbent polenta, it’s soft on soft on soft, it’s peak QW.

A bombastic ice cream Sundae compiled of Madagascan vanilla & strawberry ice creams are layered with Jersey cream, strawberry compote and a white chocolate crumble, a childhood fantasy in coupe. Available everyday except Sunday (and Monday).

A reminder that at lunch 3 courses is £30 (other course sizes available too) and a bifana with a Super Bock is £12 at lunch and between 5pm -7pm.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Marcos, Nick & the Team.
