Le Grand Prix Fixe.

Welcome to Friday, the weekend, the newsletter. There’s a new sheriff in town, a change of gear, a new tarif. So from next week Quality Wines will be offering a new set lunch. A homage to The Bistro: to Bouillon Chartier, Zedel, Repair de Cartouche, to Hill (Damon), Schumacher (Ralph) to Teenage Fanclub. Available Tuesday to Saturday, midday until 2:30pm, 2 courses for £29 or 3 for £35. To be taken as quickly or slowly as one wishes. For the B2B luncheon or with the BFF, luxuriant & lounging.

Next week’s set lunch for your delectation:

Focaccia

Chickpea, Parsley & Sumac Salad

 or Pork Rillettes & Cornichons

or Soupe de Poisson

*****

Pappardelle al Pomodoro

or Roast Chicken Leg with Orzo, Spinach & Lemon

or Steamed Hake with White Beans, Fennel, Saffron & Rouille (£5 supplement)

Green Salad £7

*****

Amalfi Lemon & Almond Cake with Crème Fraîche

or Marsala & Raisin Ice Cream

or Bitter Chocolate Sorbet

Cheese is as ever available.

*****

Please do however note that should you wish to graze, snack, procrastinate: gildas, salumi & a single plate of pasta or mortadella panino will all still be available. Don’t let the prix get you down!

At dinner a ‘Caldereta de Cordero’ or lamb shank stew has been the talk of the corner. Southern Spanish in origin, spiced with cumin & paprika and thickened with almonds, breadcrumbs & chicken livers. Served with waxy, fudgey, olive oil roasted potatoes, a glass of Manzanilla & a spot on the terraza.

Elsewhere an Amalfi lemon & almond cake and the holy triumvirate of cannoli (candied lemon, sour cherry & chocolate) grace the dessert section. A cacophony of Ciroc & a variety of Palinka has hit the digestif list. Tread carefully, degustation is danger.

Hoping to see you all soon. Liberté, égalité, Aligoté
