O Caponata! My Caponata!

Welcome to the weekend and the Quality Wines newsletter.

A truly ‘Greatest Hits’ menu for this week and next in adoration of Helios, Apollo, Lugh! The tomatoes are ripe, aubergines protuberant & purple, the terrace adorned with terracotta, aromatic Grecian shrubbery & sunshine, proper sunshine. This, is peak QW season.

Caponata, the Sicilian agrodolce dish of aubergines, zucchini, fennel, sundried tomatoes & pine nuts has been a staple round these parts since day dot, and is an understated cause for celebration at it’s yearly appearance.

Vesuvian bull heart tomatoes come dressed with borlotti beans & salmoriglio. Non giallo, profondo rosso.

Braised Iberian pork collars are fat & juicy. Coming with waxy Cornish Mid potatoes & ‘molho de leitao’, a Portuguese suckling pig sauce with a hefty crack of black pepper. It’s delicious and a pleasingly porky Kaleidoscope of browns & beiges.

Cornish Turbot is roasted and served with lobster sauced Arroz Calasparra. A trip to the bay of Biscay, infused with bay & bisque.

And, lobster rolls are back! 18 milk bun rolls a day. Enriched with clarified butter and stuffed with lobster & QW mayonnaise, some chives, some more butter. If you know, you know. If you dont, do.

As ever our ‘Express Lunch’ will be available Tuesday to Saturday for £15, with a glass, beer or soft. We’ll be extra excited to see you and have more time to chat ‘no till’ farming, Nietzsche & Gareth’s lads.

Looking forward to welcoming you all. There are some spots still available for tomorrow (Saturday) night, get in touch!
